I can’t lose weight after my pregnancy

I can’t lose weight after my pregnancy

That’s it, you’ve succeeded in delivering your sweet little baby from your belly. Congratulations, you’re a wonderful mom, you’re ecstatic about your baby, there’s only one small shadow left: your weight. You have trouble fitting into your pre-pregnancy clothes, and worse, you look in the mirror and don’t recognize yourself. It’s perfectly normal to want to lose your pregnancy pounds, but if you haven’t lost them yet, patience and a few tips will be your best allies.

Trust in nature

It took you 9 months to shape a little human being in your belly, you need to give your body time to find itself. Generally speaking, pregnancy pounds will come off naturally. If you gain between 20 and 30 lbs during your pregnancy, about 12 lbs are lost immediately after birth. Then, it takes about two months after delivery for your uterus to return to its original size. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Allow time for your body to rebuild and redefine itself.

A matter of metabolism

There’s nothing more depressing than comparing your body to others. While you may see celebrities displaying a slim waistline in just a few weeks after giving birth, the reality is quite different. Similarly, the body of a woman who gave birth at age 20 is not the same as that of a woman who gave birth at age 40. Depending on your metabolism, your ability to lose weight is different.

If you are breastfeeding, it can help you lose a few pounds. Breastfeeding is a big energy expenditure, especially since you will need to eat more to satisfy your needs and those of your child. If you are not satisfied with your weight loss, you may want to consider going back to sports or dieting 6-8 weeks after giving birth.

Returning to the gym postpartum

Even if you are eager to return to the gym after giving birth, certain conditions must be respected:

  • Wait at least 6 weeks after giving birth,
  • Have the doctor’s approval,
  • Start with a perineal reeducation.

If you have had an episiotomy or a caesarean section, it is possible to postpone the resumption of sports until 3 months after the delivery. Start with gentle activities that maintain the body and do not have a negative impact on your body in general, such as walking, swimming and yoga.

A helping hand from electrostimulation

Once you have the doctor’s approval to resume exercising after childbirth, consider getting help from electrostimulation to regain your tone. Iron Bodyfit centers are available to help you work the muscles of your body: abs, thighs, buttocks and back. You put on the appropriate suit and under the supervision of a coach, a twenty-minute session allows you to redefine your shape more easily.
